Discovery Learning Week 5

Our Key Competency focus this term is 'Thinking'. There were lots of detailed plans made this week and some great reflections. Check out some of the reflections on our Discovery learning walls outside Room 14. Thanks to Eric, Justin's Dad and colleagues for taking time to share your new computer software with us. Thinking

This term, our Key Competency focus is 'Thinking'. The children have been very busy planning, solving problems and finding alternative ways to reach a goal. We started our Science Inquiry this week. Our big question is 'What makes things pop, bang and fizz?'. The children have already been predicting and observing like real Scientists! Photos to come!

NZ Author Study - Gavin Bishop

This week we have been reading books written by Christchurch author Gavin Bishop. Thank you for bringing your Gavin Bishop books to school. Max was especially proud of his signed copy of 'Bruiser'. Gavin Bishop wrote this book for the Christchurch rebuild. The children enjoyed drawing and cutting out their own 'Bruisers'. Check out Gavin Bishop's website http://www.gavinbishop.com

NZ Author Study - Pamela Allen..... Potato People!

We have been reading lots of books written by Pamela Allen. Lots of you had some of her books at home and we found some hiding in our school library. One of our favourites was a book called 'Potato People'. The children were so interested in how they were made, we decided to make some of our own!

Obstacle Course Fun - Discovery Learning Week 1

These little thinkers planned carefully before they started putting out the equipment. The children worked so well together to create amazing obstacle courses. Some planned on big paper, some used chalk and planned outside. It was interesting to see how the obstacle courses were changed and added to, making them quite different to the original plans! There was even a 'snake pit' made with wooden planks and skipping ropes! The children worked out a way to get across the snakes by building a bridge. It was great to see the children setting challenges for each other and reflecting on their designs.

Gymnastics

We had our first session at The Christchurch School of Gymnastics this week. We all had a wonderful time balancing, jumping, swinging, climbing, hanging and doing all sorts of exciting things! Check out this video to see the little gymnasts in action!
